Rail Closures

ATTENTION: Buses will be replacing METRO Blue Line trains starting June 29 from Target Field to Mall of America stations. Work includes upgrades to signals and other equipment that guide Metro Transit’s light rail train movements. The upgrades will allow safer and more efficient routing of trains, reducing delays, and improving schedule reliability.

Replacement Blue Line bus service will operate during these dates and between these stations:
June 29 – Aug. 19: Target Field and Mall of America stations (Full Blue Line)

NOTE:
Replacement bus timing can vary and trips take longer because of needed routing and traffic conditions.
Please plan extra time for your trip.

The METRO D Line is another way to get between downtown Minneapolis and Mall of America.

Buses will also replace METRO Green Line trains between Target Field and West Bank stations during the following periods:

  • July 1 – 26
  • Aug. 16 – 19

Note: Green Line customers can transfer to a Blue Line bus at West Bank Station to continue west into downtown Minneapolis or south toward Mall of America. This transfer option will remain available in downtown Minneapolis July 27 – Aug. 15 when Green Line service resumes in downtown Minneapolis. Customers traveling east to St. Paul should exit the replacement bus and board the Green Line train.

Alternate routes for Green Line customers:
Route 94 travels between downtown St. Paul and downtown Minneapolis (with a stop at Snelling Ave.) on a regular schedule with increased frequency during rush hours.

The METRO E Line is an easy transfer from either Westgate or Stadium

Village stations on the Green Line, with direct access to downtown Minneapolis via Hennepin Ave.

*Dates and affected stations are subject to change.

Replacement bus service for shutdowns on the METRO Blue and Green lines

When rail maintenance, construction or other disruptions prevent light rail trains from operating, buses are used to replace rail service. Buses run on similar schedules as trains but can take more time. Customers are urged to plan accordingly. The maps below show where to board replacement buses on the Blue and Green lines.

Customers can receive additional information by calling 612-373-3333. When an unscheduled disruption occurs, real-time information is posted on Metro Transit's X and Facebook accounts. Customers may also sign up to receive alerts by text and email using Rider Alerts.
