Many people who work at Metro Transit take on new responsibilities and roles throughout their careers. Career Tracks highlights the paths employees have taken to their latest assignment and where they see themselves going next. Read more on the Riders' Almanac blog.
How did you begin your career with Metro Transit?
In 2012, I started as a mechanic working third shift at Nicollet Garage. The following year, I moved to South Garage to serve as a service evaluation mechanic. Then the opportunity came to apply for a garage supervisor position. With my previous experience as an airline fueling supervisor, I applied and earned the position. Recently, I moved into a new role as a warranty supervisor where I will continue to the build on my knowledge and encourage others who may want to grow with Metro Transit.
What were your career goals and what steps did you take to achieve them?
My goal is to continue to grow with Metro Transit. As garage supervisor, I gained plenty of knowledge and experience from my peers, managers, and staff, which help me grow. I have learned that equality, equity, and inclusion are very important at Metro Transit. I have participated in Equity and Inclusion classes, took some leadership classes, and most importantly took the time to understand my peers around me.
What advice do you have for others who want to take on more responsibilities or different responsibilities?
My advice to others is that to grow here you need to take classes that will help you communicate with your peers, listen to their advice as well as offer advice. If you do this, the possibilities are endless.
