How do you get to work?

I try to ride my e-bike in every day. Using the Bryant Avenue and Blaisdell Avenue bike lanes, it's about a seven-mile trip from my home in south Minneapolis to Heywood. This was my first year riding through the winter. I used studded tires to prevent me from slipping and falling. The only time I haven’t ridden this year was when it was below negative 10.

What do you like most about using an e-bike?

I originally bought the e-bike because I hurt my knee. It’s also been a way to speed up the commute and get exercise without showing up to work drenched in sweat. I like that you can take it a little easier and cool down before you arrive.

Why do you prefer biking?

Driving is really stressful. I never end up in a good mood when I drive. I started biking, and it’s made my days a lot more enjoyable. Plus, with my e-bike, it can be just as fast or even faster than driving. I also like to talk with people at stoplights, which is not something you do when driving. It’s fun to connect with people that way.

Are e-bikes allowed on transit? Good question! Yes, e-bikes can be brought onboard trains and placed on the front rack of a bus if they weigh less than 55 pounds. Learn more at metrotransit.org/bike-options
