When I became general manager last July, I committed to ride every route we operate in my first year serving in this role.
These rides have given me great insight into the issues that are most important to riders across the metro – over and over, people say they want a safe, clean, and reliable experience on transit. Riders are also sharing with me their ideas about how we should improve and expand our service.
Feedback gathered through your calls, emails, social media posts, and outreach events also helps us know where we need to focus our attention.
Next week, I and other Metro Transit leaders will invite additional feedback through a series of events centered around Metro Transit Forward.
Metro Transit Forward is our effort – and our commitment – to co-create a shared vision, mission and strategic framework that will guide our future work.
With your help, we hope to put this shared vision forward this summer. The feedback we receive through these upcoming events will help us know whether we’re on the right track.
While we have more work to do, you can expect to see some familiar themes in our final product.
We know you want us to provide high-quality services that are safe, clean, reliable, and available when needed. To be an employer of choice, we know we need to create a workplace that is inclusive and supports people throughout their careers.
And we know that equity, sustainability, communication and engagement, continuous improvement, and financial stewardship need to remain foundational in all our work.
So, please come see us next week. And thank you in advance for helping us set the course for all the work that lies ahead.
