Metro Transit partners with Transit app to upgrade the rider experience

Partnership will expand access to transit information, give riders another way to provide feedback

Twin Cities transit riders are getting a major upgrade to their digital experience thanks to a new partnership between Metro Transit and the trip planning app Transit.

The partnership will allow people across the Twin Cities to access Transit’s Royale service at no cost. Royale offers additional trip planning features like the ability to see more routes, departure times, and vehicle locations.

More than 21,000 people across the Twin Cities are already using Transit on a regular basis. The app is also available in Duluth, Rochester and more than 800 other cities in 25 countries across the world.

“Our mission has always been to help people get around without their own car,” said Sam Vermette, CEO of Transit. “Every month, we help 8 million people around the world navigate their cities by bus, train, foot, bike, and more, and that wouldn’t be possible without our agency partners. We’re proud to be working hand-in-hand with Metro Transit to unlock the best app experience for their riders.”

Metro Transit is sponsoring the Royale service to meet customers where they are and to gather more insights on the rider experience. Through Transit, riders can provide feedback on things like station and vehicle cleanliness and the accuracy of real-time departure information. In January alone, Metro Transit received 66,000 survey responses through the Transit app.

“Hearing from our riders is essential to knowing how and where we need to improve,” Metro Transit General Manager Lesley Kandaras said. “We are excited to not only make our transit information easier to access but to give riders another avenue for providing feedback.”

Transit does not replace Metro Transit’s app, primarily used to purchase mobile tickets and access trip planning features available through Metro Transit’s mobile website.
