The Penn Avenue Improvements Project is a collaborative effort by Metro Transit, Hennepin County and the City of Minneapolis to make infrastructure improvements and enhance transportation and transit service and safety throughout Penn Avenue and Olson Memorial Highway (Hwy. 55) into downtown Minneapolis. Major construction on Penn Avenue is now complete.
Roadway and pedestrian safety improvements include:
- Narrowing roadway to encourage safer traffic speeds
- Shortened crossing distances for pedestrians
- Improved street lighting
- Green boulevards to further separate pedestrians from traffic
- Updating pedestrian ramps to be ADA compliant
- Replacing sidewalks
This project is a part of the larger Penn Avenue Vision and Implementation Framework, a result of more than two years of planning from Hennepin County, the City of Minneapolis, Metro Transit and neighborhoods in North Minneapolis.
C Line Shelters
C Line shelters will be available to customers on December 29. Minor construction activity will continue at stations through the spring with the installation of NexTrip real-time information signs, ticket machines and Go-To Card readers.
Customers can look forward to other great features, such as security cameras and emergency phones when the C Line launches in spring of 2019.
