Hi-Lake Project

Hiawatha-Lake intersection improvements

The Hiawatha Avenue and Lake Street intersection (Hi-Lake) is being redesigned to create a safer area where people can move easily — and more often — by walking, biking, rolling, and using public transit. Construction of the new design started in April 2024 and includes an intersection layout that supports climate-friendly transportation and opportunities for added community space.

METRO B Line and Lake Street improvements

Continued construction of the METRO B Line and Lake Street improvements began on Lake Street west of Hiawatha Avenue in spring 2024. This 12-mile line will connect neighborhoods and destinations in Minneapolis and St. Paul.

Construction in 2024 has started and will take place on Lake Street and Lagoon Avenue between France Avenue and Hiawatha Avenue.

In Minneapolis, this project will construct pedestrian, bikeway and signal improvements, as well as pavement resurfacing, restriping, and painting of bus lanes on Lake Street. This work was planned and funded in coordination with Hennepin County and the City of Minneapolis.
